Australia Warns Its Citizens Not to Visit Nigeria Because Of Ebola Virus

As the Ebola virus continues to ravage west Africa, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has issued a strict warning to it’s citizens not to visit the country. it wrote a statement on its website, which reads;
Nearly 700 people have died in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia since March in what has been described as the most serious recorded outbreak yet of the virus. One Liberian has also died in Nigeria, raising fears the disease could spread further across the region. Nigeria had since set up disease isolation centres at its international airports.

EndTime-Ish! Man Stabs Friend Over N2,000 Debt [photo]

The Edo state Police command has arrested a man identified as Oruma who allegedly stabbed his 20-year-old friend, Frederick Eze, in the neck over a N2,000 debt.

Punch reports that Frederick, who was angry that Oruma had not paid his money, accosted him at the Oza area of the state & seized a property belonging to Frederick, who is an ice cream factory worker from Ebonyi state. A fight broke out between them and Oruma broke a bottle and stabbed Frederick in the neck.

Frederick lost conciousness after losing so much blood. He was rushed to a private hospital on a wheelbarrow after several cab drivers declined to take him.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, Noble Uwoh, said, “He has been arrested. The two people in the matter are friends.” he said

The guard on duty then told put on her clothes ,which she did and left.

President Jonathan today officially launched and obtained the new 64-page e-passport. According to presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati;

"The new 64-pg e-passport helps frequent travelers, it's gender friendly, forestalls identity theft, cheaper for the aged and low income earners, conforms with international best practices."

10-year-old Female Suicide Bomber Arrested in Katsina

The arrest of a 10-year-old girl, suspected to be a suicide bomber in Katsina State has been announced by the Chairman, National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri. And according to Omeri, the little girl was among three suspected Boko Haram members that were arrested on Tuesday night. She had a belt strapped with explosives at the time of her arrest.

Former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai just posted this on his social media pages. His young son, Hamza El-Rufai  died this morning in Abuja after a car crash. OMG. Just three months ago, Nasir lost his daughter, Zainab El-Rufai Mohammed. She had died from complications related to sickle cell anaemia.

59 persons came in contact with Ebola victim -LASG

He Lagos State Government on Monday said 59 people in the state came in contact with the 40-year-old Liberian who died of Ebola virus in Lagos.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who made this known in   Ikeja, explained that the number consisted of 44 health care workers   and 15 others at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

The commissioner said the government had not been able to establish the number of contacts the Liberian had on the plane that flew him into Nigeria because the management of Asky Airline   had not provided it with the manifest.

Cameroon Rescues Vice PM’s Wife Kidnapped by Boko Haram

Security operatives in Cameroon have rescued wife of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali who was kidnapped by the Boko Haram sect on Sunday along with a traditional ruler of Kolofata town, reports BBC Hausa Service.
The reports say that 16 people lost their lives in the rescue operations, although Cameroon information minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said government was still investigating the matter to ascertain the actual number of people killed.

Meanwhile, a military court in Cameroon has convicted and sentenced 14 BokoHaram members to 20 years imprisonment after they were arrested with weapons in March around Marwa in northern Cameroon.

Blessing Okagbare wins Gold in Women's 100m final in Glasgow

Sprinter Blessing Okagbare just won Gold in the Women's 100m for Nigeria in the Commonwealth Games. She won in a time of 10.85 seconds in a new Games record, making her the second fastest woman of all time in World 100 metres. She beat Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown and Kerron Stewart and England’s Asha Phillip who came second, third and fourth respectively.

Ebola: NCAA suspends ASky operations

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has announced the suspension of all ASky Airline operations to Nigeria.
A statement by NCAA’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Fan Ndubuoke, said the suspension took immediate effect.
It quoted its Acting Director-General, Mr. Benedict Adeyileka, as  saying this announcement this at the NCAA headquarters on Monday.
He explained that the regulatory authority had to take this action to protect Nigerians from the deadly Ebola virus which has beem ravaging some parts of East and Central Africa.
ASky Airline is an important player in the West, East and Central Africa operating 80 flights into Lagos and Abuja weekly.

Jonathan condemns terror attack in Kano, Adamawa & Cameroon

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wholeheartedly condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Kano and Adamawa States as well as the kidnap of the Lamido of Kolofata in Northern Cameroon, Lamido Seini Lamine and the wife of the Vice Prime Minister of Cameroon.

The President describes as shocking, callous and reprehensible the multiple bomb blasts that occurred in Kano within 24 hours, and the unrelenting attacks by the Boko Haram at a time the Muslim faithful are observing the holy festival of Eid el Fitri.
