A five-year-old boy fell from his 19th-floor bedroom window to his
death after he was refused permission to watch the latest Spider-Man
movie.
He was named as Valentino. The Indonesian police said that the boy had locked himself up in his room at the apartment complex in the capital, Jakarta after he had an argument with his mum. Officers are investigating the possibility the tragic youngster may have either taken his own life or mimicked his screen hero.
According to Indonesian media the boy was in the bathroom on Thursday when he asked his 23-year-old mum named as Eva, if he could see the latest superhero film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was released in Indonesia on Wednesday and has been a smash hit, scoring the country’s highest opening day box office figures of all time. But his mum said he couldn’t go because his one-year-old brother, Vincencius was ill, and she wanted to visit him at her mum’s house.
‘This made Valentino very upset, He wanted to see the movie. After his request was declined, Valentino then rushed to his room and locked it from the inside. She went down to the second floor to ask for help from a caretaker, but while talking to him she heard a commotion outside.’ Senior Police Commander Suyudi said.
The child’s body was found on the roof of the food court in the apartment complex. The noise his mum heard was of people rushing to his aid after he fell. He was taken to a nearby hospital but he was dead on arrival.
The police had initially said they were investigating the possibility
of him taking his own life because the window was easily accessible
from his bed. However, police have also said he was a ‘hyperactive’
child who enjoyed imitating his screen heroes.
‘He liked to imitate films like Iron Man and Captain America after every watch,’ the head of the criminal investigation unit said.
