Nigeria is a public
health and policy change campaign project using Social Media to advance tobacco
control and support the passage of a comprehensive Tobacco Control (TC) law
compliant with the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco
Control (FCTC)

TobaccoCtrl
kicked off its social media campaign officially in August with the launch of
their website and Tobacco
Dodge Game app.
The group also held crowds bound with
its message on the streets of Ajegunle in Lagos with the use of dance & music
performance from Dathreat dance group & Vocal Slender. The launch activities
continued with quiz, competitions and giveaways on Twitter & FB.
TobaccoCtrl
gave out Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Nokia Lumia 520 and Tecno S3 devices during the
yuletide season with its #SmokeFreeHols contest.
#SmokeFreeHols Twitter contest served as an opportunity to
give back, sensitize fans and followers of TobaccoCtrl and also to raise
awareness on having a ‘SMOKEFREE HOLIDAY’. The giveaway was exclusive to TobaccoCtrl Twitter followers.
Over 300 people
participated in the #SmokeFreeHols contest and there was an average of 500
tweets and retweets with a unique 891 engagement daily. The contest lasted for
10days (22nd December 2013 – 1st January 2014)
Criteria for
participation were;
1.
You must be
following @TobaccoCtrl
2.
You will Compose
10 tweets daily on having a Smoke Free Holiday this season
3.
Mention
@TobaccoCtrl in all your tweets and use the #SmokeFreeHols hashtag
4.
Invite 10 of your
friends to follow and retweet the 10 tweets you composed.
The #SmokeFreeHols contest had a potential reached of 751,316
followers. Winners were announced on Wednesday 8th of January and
prizes were presented to winners on Wednesday 15th 2014. The prizes
for the contest were:
1st Prize winner - Bakare Bolaji Moyosore (A Samsung
Galaxy Tab)
2nd Prize winner - Oyatokun Olumide (Nokia Lumia 520)
3rd Prize winner - Elisha Zechariah Maleeks (Tecno S3
Phone)
There were consolation prizes of N1000 worth of recharge airtime
to 10 top runner ups.
